Jamaica: Essential Destination Advice
What currency do they use in Jamaica?
The two main currencies in circulation in Jamaica are the US and Jamaican dollar. There are currency exchange bureaux in resort areas, hotels and airports, and foreign currency may also be exchanged at any bank. Banking hours are generally from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. ATMs are also readily available but remember that they only dispense Jamaican dollars, so you need to request cash in the Jamaican dollar amount. All the main credit cards are widely accepted. It is recommended that if you take travellers’ cheques these should be in $US to avoid additional charges.
